Using the Portland Pudgy Lifting Eyes and Davit Harness
We will have pictures soon to illustrate the use of the lifting eyes and davit harness.
You can hang the Pudgy from davits using the optional davit harness and lifting eyes. The eyes are set low in the interior of the cockpit (they also serve as as fastening points for safety harnesses).
The eyes are used to lift the Pudgy up on davits but are not meant for continuous use for hanging the boat from davits (see warning below). The lifting eyes will remain fastened to the davits to prevent the boat being knocked from the harness, but they will not bear the Pudgy’s weight. The davit harness will bear the weight. |
The davit harness is designed to bear the weight of the Pudgy. It can hold the boat in either of two positions. You can pull the upright boat tight against the horizontal arms of the davits, or you can fasten the boat on its side, snugged up against the vertical part of the davit system. In either position, the use of two spring lines will keep the boat from swinging side to side, and the boat is safe in heavy seas. If storing the boat on its side, water will naturally drain out of the boat. If storing the boat upright, the drain plug should be removed if you are expecting rain or heavy weather.
CAUTION: The lifting eyes should not continue to bear the weight of the boat, once the boat is lifted in position. Once in position, the harness should be used. Pressure should be backed off of the lifting eyes. |
